KID'S VISION

SCREENING

PROGRAM

The Lions Kid's Vision Screening Program  is part of a nationwide initiative of Lions Clubs to help parents and educators to find and correct children’s vision problems.

About 80 percent of learning is acquired visually, yet as important as vision is,

screening approaches are often inaccurate and cumbersome. Undetected vision disorders can significantly handicap a child’s full potential in life and learning.

Five percent of all preschool children have vision problems, many of which go undetected.  Children with poor vision may not complain, and many will have no noticeable symptoms.  Yet vision problems, such as lazy eye, can lead to permanent loss of vision, and even blindness.  Vision develops so rapidly that screening for problems early is our best defense against a blinding vision problem.  The most important time to test for and correct lazy eye (Amblyopia) is in the preschool years when treatment is most effective - the earlier, the better.

Lions Kid's Vision Screening Program identifies vision problems early and provides vision health information resulting in referrals to an eye care professional. The Lions Kid's Vision Screening Program has provided vision screenings with accuracy to community daycares and even in public and private schools.  Our hand-held camera systems operated by our State certified Lions  provide reliable data within a matter of seconds.

Vision screening helps ensure that children have an opportunity to reach their full potential.
